This Privacy Policy describes how Recipai ("the app", "we", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application. By using Recipai you agree to the practices described here.

1. About Recipai

Recipai is an AI-powered recipe generator. You provide ingredients and preferences; our backend sends your request to Google's Gemini API and returns a generated recipe. All recipe content is AI-generated and clearly labelled as such within the app.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum data needed to operate the service:

Device fingerprint — a non-reversible identifier derived from your device, used solely to enforce fair-use limits (one recipe session per cycle) and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity.
Recipe inputs — ingredients, cuisine preferences, meal type, and serving sizes you enter. These are sent to our Cloud Function and then to Google Gemini to generate your recipe. They are not stored permanently on our servers.
Recipe counter — an aggregate count of recipes generated, stored in Firestore to manage API usage. No recipe content is stored server-side after delivery.
Content reports — if you voluntarily submit a report on a recipe (e.g. inaccurate, unsafe), the recipe name and report reason are stored in Firestore for moderation purposes.
Ad interaction data — if an ad is shown, Google AdMob may collect data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. See Section 5.

3. How We Use Your Information

To generate and return AI recipes based on your inputs
To enforce fair-use limits and prevent automated abuse
To review flagged content reports and improve safety
To display ads that support the free operation of the app

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for marketing.

4. Data Storage & Retention

Recipe inputs are processed in real time and not stored on our servers.
The aggregate recipe counter is stored indefinitely in Google Firestore.
Content reports are stored in Firestore until reviewed and resolved.
Saved recipes are stored locally on your device only using device storage.
Ad session tokens are held in memory and automatically deleted after 10 minutes.

5. Third-Party Services

Recipai uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Google Gemini API — processes your recipe inputs to generate recipe content. Google Privacy Policy →

6. Advertising & Consent (GDPR / EEA)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before showing personalised advertisements, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable local laws.

We use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and manage your consent. You may withdraw or update your consent at any time by reinstalling the app or contacting us at the email below.

If you do not consent, non-personalised ads may still be shown to support the free operation of the app.

7. AI-Generated Content

All recipes in Recipai are generated by artificial intelligence (Google Gemini). AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for specific dietary needs or health conditions. Always verify recipes with a qualified professional before following them for medical or dietary purposes.

You can report any recipe you believe is inaccurate, unsafe, or inappropriate using the flag icon within the app. We review all reports and take appropriate action.

8. Children's Privacy

Recipai is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Data Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including HMAC signature verification for ad sessions and HTTPS encryption for all network communication. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since we do not collect identifiable personal data beyond device fingerprints, most requests can be addressed by uninstalling the app. For any specific requests, contact us at the address below.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
